Profile

Areas of scientific activities of the Department include:

  • satellite communication and navigation systems: GNSS, GPS, GALILEO, INMARSAT, LRIT, AIS;
  • terrestrial radio communication systems: GSM, UMTS, LTE, TETRA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WiMAX;
  • propagation aspects in marine and terrestrial radio communications;
  • fast data transmission in the marine radio communication systems;
  • location services using cellular and satellite systems;
  • analysis and simulation of the cellular networks 2G, 3G and beyond;
  • Software Defined Radio.

Competence

The Department is able to realize different scientific and commercial tasks concerning communication systems and equipment development, as follows:

  • creating technical and operational requirements;
  • preparing technical specifications;
  • consultancy and management of technical projects;
  • analysis and evaluations of radio communication systems;
  • designing of the communication devices;
  • designing and testing of the radio communication systems;
  • professional training and courses.

Achievements in 2009

Participation in the project EfficienSea – Efficient, Safe and Sustainable Traffic at Sea. EfficienSea is an Interreg project (Baltic Sea Region 2007–2013) aimed at improving the Baltic Sea region environment and safety of navigation. EfficienSea has a budget close to 8 million Euro, gathering 16 partners from six countries around the Baltic Sea.

Participation in the project “Methodology development for evaluation of the in-vehicle emergency call system eCall" financed by the National Centre for Research and Development. Project is realized in consortium with Motor Transport Institute and Automex Sp. z o.o. and aimed at development of the simulator of a eCall device and testing of the correctness of the eCall messages (MSD/FSD) transmission via cellular networks to the 112 centres, in accordance with the eCall system specifications.
