Profile

The Radio Communications Department conducts research in radio equipment and systems, particularly in the fields of broadband access systems, mobile and short range radio devices. The significant part of department activity takes up the Radio Testing Laboratory. The widest in Poland competences of this accredited laboratory (Polish Centre for Accreditation Certificate no. AB 121) cover more then 20 European radio standards. This department supports also all Institute activities as Notified Body ID 1471 under Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE Directive) and offers consultancy services concerning technical requirements and standards.

Competence

The Department offers services in the following fields:

  • co-operation and/or participation in research programs dealing with radio equipment and systems;
  • analytical works and expert opinions concerning radio equipment and systems;
  • planning of point-to-multipoint and point-to-point microwave networks;
  • consultancy services in the field of radio communication requirements and standards;
  • preparation of the test plans for conformance assessment with essential requirements of Directive 1999/5/EC (base for "CE" testing);
  • tests of radio equipment and systems within the frequency range from 9 kHz to 40 GHz, performed according to the standard procedures or test plans agreed with the ordering party;
  • preparation of the Notified Body Expert Opinion regarding conformity to essential requirements of Directive 1999/5/EC on the basis of the submitted technical construction file;
  • preparation of technical requirements and test methodology for network equipment especially when mutual compatibility problems and interferences occur.

Achievements in 2009

The most significant achievements of the Department in 2009 are as follows:

  • contract with Crowley Data Poland for development of programming tool concerning point-tomultipoint LMDS network planning in 26/28 GHz frequency bands (with downlink cochannel and adjacent channels interference analysis);
  • contract with Frontex (the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union) concerning preparation of "Technical chapter of the Users’ Requirements for Portable Communication Systems";
  • contracts with new Polish 3G network operators concerning preparation of technical specifications for base station equipment;
  • results of laboratory and Notified Body activities: 77 tests reports, 5 reports of submitted documents validation and 30 expert opinions regarding conformity to essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive;
  • several specific expert works concerning intersystem compatibility.
