First conference Research for Information Society was organized by the National Institute of Telecommunications upon initiative of prof. A. P. Wierzbicki in 1998.
Participants of subsequent conferences included outstanding Polish and international experts as well as scientists from the Central and Eastern Europe presenting issues associated with information society technologies (IST). A key goal of such meetings is to present, exchange, discuss and appropriately streamline research in telecommunications, computer sciences, information technologies, economy, law, sociology as well as interdisciplinary research pertaining to information society, information civilization, world information structure or knowledge-based economy. It is very important to exchange actual experiences between participants of the conference in the area of implementation of the foregoing concepts and research programs dedicated thereto. Conferences refer also to research conducted under programs of the European Union, therefore EU experts are always invited to make speeches.
We try not to tightly narrow topics of the conferences, however so far each of them had a single key subject. Sample topics accepted in subsequent editions of the conference are as follows:
- digital telecommunications technologies,
- services for information society,
- electronic documents and e-economy,
- information society vs. development of modern industry,
- laws and electronic crimes,
- globalization and ethnic communities,
- education for information society,
- employment structure and teleworking,
- e-Europe and e-Poland initiatives,
- European framework programs,
- research into information society in national programs, in particular in Central and Eastern Europe.
So far on the conferences three types of papers were being presented:
invited papers, given by outstanding
specialists, submitted papers presented
by conference attendees and
papers of conference sponsors.
Sponsors who have an opportunity to present their achievements may also present their products in an exhibition part. During each conference we organize a panel discussion.
Programs of conferences are supplemented by related events.
Conference papers are in principle read in English. During plenary sessions we arrange a two-directional simultaneous interpreting service.
