The National Institute of Telecommunications is a scientific & research institution operating in the area of telecommunications and information technology. It conducts works in the scope of development of the state telecommunications network, normalization and standardization of telecommunication systems and devices.

Two newest products developed by NIT's engineers: SMOK-2U - Cable monitoring and protection system and AWP-IŁ - System for assessment of technical quality of telecommunication networks received titles of the Euro Leaders 2008.
The National Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw together with the University of Aveiro and the IEEE/LEOS Poland Chapter are pleased to announce the 11th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks ICTON 2009 which will be kindly hosted by University of Azores, City of Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, June 28 - July 2, 2009. ICTON 2009 is receiving technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society.
